ADT – Advanced Dispersion Technology

Advanced Dispersion Technology

ADT in drum

ADT “Advanced Dispersion Technology” has been developed with the purpose of getting marked friction reductions during steel cold rolling as well as an excellent cleanliness of the strip before and after the annealing process.

ADT is based on the aqueous dispersion of bio-based oils, polymers and a customised additive package tailored to the specific characteristics of the mill, range of steel grades produced and downstream process operating parameters (Annealing, Galvanizing, etc.).

mineral oil free
No biocides
non toxic

The advanced formulation of ADT has been specifically designed to obtain a high performance lubricating oil capable of respecting both the environment and the highest safety standards by avoiding the use of mineral oils, biocides or other toxic substances, making it the ideal solution for efficiency and eco-sustainability in cold rolling.

The benchmark in cold rolling lubrication.

ADT Vs Conventional Technology

Emulsion

Heterogeneous system consisting of two immiscible liquid phases (water and oil) kept together by surfactants.

Dispersion

The oil droplets remain dispersed within the aqueous phase. Through agitation inside the tanks, they distribute evenly, forming a homogeneous oil-in-water mixture.

Oil droplets dispersed in the aqueous phase are bigger than conventional emulsions and electrostatically charged to enhance adhesion on steel surface, resulting in uniform spreading on the strip (better plate-out) and work rolls to improve lubrication.

Kimya ADT Benefits

ADT “Advanced Dispersion Technology” is a rolling oil developed to deliver reliable performance under the demanding operating conditions of cold rolling. It contributes to lower operating costs and to deliver superior surface quality while supporting the sustainability goals that increasingly shape the evolution of the lubricants industry.

Reduced Operating Costs

reduced oil consumption

Reduced Oil Consumption

The breakdown of conventional emulsions caused by rolling forces leads to the separation and removal of spent oil. Tests conducted on both Tandem and Reversing Mills have consistently shown consumption reductions of 20–30%, reaching values between 0.13 and 0.25 kg/t.

lower energy consumption

Lower Energy Consumption

The innovative technology behind Kimya ADT enables a significant reduction in energy consumption, estimated between 5% and 15% during plant trials and industrial applications.

reduced rolling forces

Reduced Rolling Forces

Analysis of rolling force data demonstrates that Kimya ADT can reduce rolling forces by 80 to 250 tonnes, depending on the material being processed and the reduction schedule applied.

debottlenecking

Debottlenecking

By reducing rolling forces, Kimya ADT enables higher reductions to achieve lower exit gauges or process thicker entry gauges; it also expands production capabilities to roll wider or higher-yield-strength materials.

reduced roll wear

Reduced Roll Wear

The lubricating properties of Kimya ADT can reduce wear on work, intermediate and backup rolls by up to 50%, according to data collected from Tandem and Reversing Mills. The result is lower operating costs together with increased productivity and equipment utilization.

incresead mill productivity

Increased Mill Productivity

Kimya ADT ensures consistent and uniform strip lubrication, reducing the risk of strip breaks and chatter phenomena while enabling the mill to operate at its maximum speed potential

Innovative Formulation

Kimya ADT represents the next generation of cold rolling lubricants, engineered not only to deliver outstanding performance but also to meet the most demanding environmental sustainability requirements. Through continuous monitoring of our rolling fluids and the use of customized additive packages, we provide targeted optimization tailored to the specific needs of any mill configuration.

reduced environmental footprint

Reduced environmental footprint

Reduced environmental footprint (made from bio-based substances) and positive impact on Health and Safety (operators are not exposed to VOC liberated from mineral oils).

consistent performance

Consistent Performance

The negative impact on performance caused by contaminants—such as dissolved iron and tramp oils—which typically necessitate the partial replacement of conventional emulsions, is virtually eliminated through the use of Kimya ADT

ADT superior cleanliness

Superior cleanliness of the strip

Superior strip cleanliness both before and after annealing, with reflectivity values meeting the highest standards required by the automotive industry.

Cost-Effective Disposal

cost-effective disposal

Lower treatment and disposal costs for spent dispersions: traditional emulsions require expensive treatment to separate the spent oil from the water and subsequently treat the water to comply with the wastewater discharge limits. Spent ADT dispersions, separate quickly leaving an upper layer of oil that can be skimmed off. Residual water requires minor treatment.
